A man takes 6 km distance to go around the rectangular area. If the area of the rectangle is 2km, find the difference between length and breadth.

A) 2 km

B) 0.75 km

C) 1 km

D) 0.5 km

Correct answer:
C) 1 km

Description for Correct answer:
Perimeter of field = 6 km

(i.e) 2(L+B) = 6

L+ B = 3 ... (i)

Area = LB = 2 km. (ii)

From (i), L = (3 - B), Put this value in (ii)

we have, (3 - B)B = 2

3B - \( B^{2} \) - 2 = 0

=> \( B^{2} \) - 3B + 2 = 0

=> B = \( \frac{3\pm \sqrt{9-8}}{2} \) = 2, 1

When B = 2 then L = 1

When B = 1 then L= 2

Therefore, Difference between Length and Breadth = 1 km
