Five years ago, the average of Simi' age that time and Tia's age that time was 17 years. Five years from now. the respective ratio between Simi's age and Tia's age that time will be 8 : 5, what is Simi's present age?

A) 16 years

B) 11 years

C) 32 years

D) 28 years

E) 23 years

Correct Answer:
D) 28 years

Description for Correct answer:
Let the present age of Simi = x years

Present age of Tia = y years

According to question

= \(\frac{x-5+y-5}{2}=17 \)

x+y-10 = 34

x+y = 44 ..... (i)

\(\frac{x+4}{y+4} = \frac{8}{5} \)

5x + 20 = 8y + 32

5x - 8y = 12 ...... (ii)

By solving equations (i) and (ii)

x = 28, = 16

Present age of Simi = 28 yeas
