A, B and C entered into partnership in a business. A got 3/5 of profit. B and C distributed the remaining profit equally. If C got Rs. 400 less than A, the total profit was.

A) Rs. 1600

B) Rs. 1200

C) Rs. 1000

D) Rs. 800

Correct Answer:
C) Rs. 1000

Description for Correct answer:

Let the total profit be Rs.x.

Then , A's share in profit = Rs.\( \large\frac{3}{5}x \)

Remaining profit = \( \Large x - \frac{3}{5}x = \frac{5x - 3x}{5} = \frac{2x}{5} \)

B's share in profit = Rs. \( \Large \frac{x}{5} \)

C's share in profit = Rs. \( \Large \frac{x}{5} \)

According to the question, \( \left( \frac{3x}{5} - \frac{x}{5} \right) = 400\)
\( \Large \frac{2x}{5} = 400 \)

X = \( \Large \frac{400 \times 5}{2} \) = Rs.1000
