In an examination, 'A' scored 25% of the total marks but failed by 56 marks and 'B' scored 50% Of the total marks which was 144 marks more than the minimum passing marks. What was the minimum passing marks for the Examination ?

A) 256

B) 196

C) 284

D) 180

E) 300

Correct Answer:
A) 256

Description for Correct answer:
Let total marks be x.

25% of x+56=50% of x-144

\( \Large \frac{25}{100} \times x + 56 = \frac{50}{100} \times x - 144 \)

\( \Large \frac{25}{100} \times x = 56 + 144 \)

X = 200 x 4 = 800

Minimum passing marks = \( \Large 800 \times \frac{25}{100} + 56 \) = 200 + 56 = 256
