A mixture of milk and water in a jar comprises 12 litre of milk. If 5 litre of pure milk and 3 litre of pure water were added to this jar. the pertentage of water in the new mixture would be 20%. What was the initial quantity of water in the jar? (in litre)

Let the initial quantity of water in the jar = x litre
According to question,
\( \Large \frac{15 + 5}{ x + 3} \) = \( \Large \frac{80}{20} \)
=> \( \Large \frac{20}{x + 3} \) = 4 => x + 3 = 5
x = 2 litre
