4/9th of the girls and 3/7th of the boys of a primary school participated in annual sports. If the number of participating students is 302 out of which 138 are boys, what is the total number of students in the primary school?

Participating students = 302

Participating boys = 138

Participating girls = 302 - 138 = 164

Let the total number of boys be x

\( \frac{3}{7}x \) = 138

x = 322

Let the total number of girls be y

\( \frac{4}{9}y \) = 164

y = 369

Total number of students in primary school = 322+369 = 691
