A tent in the shape of a cone has a height of 12 metres and its radius of the base is 16 metres. If the cost per metre of a cloth is Rs.7. Find the cost of the material to cover the tent.

A) Rs.6096.80

B) Rs.7096.40

C) Rs.6064.80

D) Rs.7033.60

Correct Answer:
D) Rs.7033.60

Description for Correct answer:

Height of the cone 12 mts., radius (r) = 16 mts.

To find the surface area of the cone from the figure

\( \Large AC^{2} = AD^{2} + CD^{2} \)

= \( \Large 12^{2}+16^{2} = 144+256 \)

AC = \( \Large \sqrt{400} = 20 \)

Slant height of the cone = 20 mts.

Surface area of the cone = The area of the cloth to cover the tent

= \( \Large \pi rl \)

=\( \Large \frac{22}{7} \times 16 \times 20 \)

= \( \Large 3.14 \times 16 \times 20 \) = 1004.8 mts.

If the cost of the cloth is Rs.7 per metre, then the total cost of the cloth

= \( \Large 1004.8 \times 7 \) = Rs.7033.6
