A sum of money lent out at simple interest amounts to Rs.720 after 2 years and Rs.1020 after a further period of 5 years. Find the principal.

A) Rs.1740

B) Rs.120

C) Rs.6000

D) Rs.600

Correct Answer:
D) Rs.600

Description for Correct answer:

S.l. for 2 years + P = Rs.720

S.I. for (2+5) years + P = Rs.1020

Therefore, S.I. for 5 years = 1020 - 720 = Rs.300

S.l. for 2 years = \( \Large \frac{300}{5} \times 2 \) = Rs.120

Principal = 720 - 120 = Rs.600
