Three years ago, Raj's age was equal to the sum of the present ages of his one son and one daughter. Three years ago, the respective ratio between the ages of his daughter and his son that time was 12 : 13. If Raj's wife is 5 years younger to him and her present age is twice the present age of their daughter, what is the present age of their son ? (in years)
Correct Answer: Description for Correct answer:
Let the age of his daughter before three years = 12x
Age of his son before three years = 13x
Age of Raj before three years = \( 12x + 3 + 13x + 3 = 25x + 6 \)
Present age of Raj = \( 25x + 6 + 3 = 25x + 9 \)
Present age of his wife = \( 2 \times \left(12x+3\right) = 24x + 6 \)
According to question,
= \( 25x+9-24x-6 = 5 \)
= \( x+3 = 5 \)
\( x = 2 \)
The present age of Raj's son = \( 13 \times 2 + 3 = 26+3 = 29 years \)
